Private Timeshare is a South African marketplace where owners sell and rent out their weeks to the people who want them. Here’s where we stand in every deal, and what it means on each side.
Had a call from someone who says they’re from us? Here’s how to check
The owner
Lists the week with a share certificate, a levy statement and a letter from the resort.
The buyer
Only ever sees weeks that have passed that check.
The owner
Deals with a buyer whose money is already held.
The buyer
Pays into a held account, never to the seller.
The owner
Messages buyers on the site, without handing out a number.
The buyer
Messages the owner on the site, where our moderators can see it.
The owner
Is paid once we’ve checked the documents and the buyer confirms.
The buyer
Hears from our team directly before any money moves.
Not yet: we check the documents for every week, but not yet the seller’s ID. It’s the next check we’re adding.
Owning a timeshare week is the easy part. Selling one is where it goes wrong, on both sides.
You get calls from people who promise a buyer in return for a fee, then disappear with it.
You’re asked to pay a stranger by EFT and trust that the week is real, the levies are paid and the seller owns it.
Most people on both sides are honest. What’s missing is someone in the middle who checks, and who holds the money until each side has what they were promised.
That’s the job we do. Owners list their own weeks, buyers and holidaymakers buy or book straight from them, and we stay in the middle until the deal is done.
Scammers borrow real company names. Before you pay anyone or send a document, check that it’s us.
We do get in touch with buyers before we release a payment, about a purchase they’ve made here. We never ask for money when we do.
If a message or a call doesn’t match these, it isn’t from us.
Not sure about a call or a message? Don’t pay. Email us what you were told and we’ll tell you whether it was us.
List it yourself. We check it before it goes live, and pay you once the deal is done.
Every week on the site has been through the checks above.
